Dodge County Weather Expo Draws 281 Participants
On March 24, 2010, the Dodge County Weather Expo had the largest attendance of any county in Nebraska for Weather Spotter Training. 281 individuals participated in the Weather Expo that was held in the main arena at Christensen Field in Fremont. Prior to the spotter training portion of the event, participants could check out the Nebraska National Guard Civil Support Team's Mobile Command Vehicle, the Red Cross Disaster Action Team Vehicle and various weather related booths with preparedness information. A special weather video preshow, "Into the Tornado", was shown preceding the spotter training as well. Participants were also treated to hot dogs, popcorn, drinks and baked goods provided by the Pioneer Amateur Radio Club. The National Weather Service then presented their multi-media presentation on storm spotting to a very attentive crowd. At the conclusion of the training, door prizes were given out. The Rod Wiese family of Fremont walked out with the Fender Strat Guitar grand door prize. Congratulations to them! And thank you to all who participated in this wildly successful event!

Model City Disaster Drills
Region 5/6 has implemented a model city disaster drill program to practice community emergency preparedness. The model city is used to simulate a local disaster that will help the drill participants test their response skills. This is a hands-on program that draws the participants into the scenario because the model city is set up to resemble the specific community. Participants can practice identifying command posts and staging areas, deploying equipment and disseminating mutual aid resources during the drill. To schedule your community's model city disaster drill, call the Region 5/6 Emergency Management office at 402-727-2785.
