Tekamah School
Evacuation Drill
August 29, 2002
With what was deemed as a "credible" bomb threat being
called into the Tekamah School Superintendent's office, officials decided it
best to evacuate students to relocation shelters.
Simple, yes?
Well, add 650 K-12th grade students, a light mist in the air, multiple
support agencies, it being early in the school year... and this being the
first large scale event of this type in many years. Now what do you get? With
good planning and cooperative arrangements, you get a well executed drill.
Students were escorted to designated shelters. Thrown into the drill were
some simple injuries, a few students with anxiety, a couple of missing kids
and "alotta" noise in the City Auditorium.
